Grants and Contracts:

Over my career, as the Principal Investigator, I have raised over 85 million dollars (MM) in US Government grants and corporate funding. This includes: various industry:
-
$4.5 MM (Cetus, Roche, Honeywell, SRI; Mars Inc., Abbott Labs.

US Dept. of Homeland Security, DHS: $42.0 MM;
-
US Dept. of Justice, DOJ: $2.8 MM;
-
US Dept. of Energy, DOE: $3.3 MM., US Dept of Commerce (with Affymetrix), $3.6 out of $34MM.
Cepheid IPO:

As a Co-founder, CTO, and part of the Executive Team at Cepheid, we had an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2000 of 6.00/share and raised $30 MM. As the CTO, I participated in all IPO activities from preparing and filing the SEC S1, to the road show, to the IPO. Cepheid was bought by Danaher Corp. in 2016 for $4B.
Acquisition of Microfluidic Systems:

As the Founder, CEO and President of Microfluidic Systems, I managed the acquisition of Microfluidic Systems by, at the time, the publicly-traded company Positive ID Corporation (PSID) on a stock-for-stock deal at 4.00/share in 2011.
Strategic Commercial Contracts and Collaborations

I have established numerous strategic collaborations during my career. I’ve mentioned technical collaborations with UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, Roche, Abbott Labs, and others.
In addition, as the CEO of several companies I’ve established significant strategic and businessoriented collaborations and contracts with additional companies. Examples are listed below:

-
United Technologies/Hamilton Sundstrand (UTC): Microfluidic Systems was awarded the Prime Contract from DHS Homeland Security Biodefense. I established a subcontract to UTC for assistance in executing our Contact of over $34MM. We identified UTC as a partner to provide national security, administrative services, and technical support for our Biowatch Gen 3 contract.
-
Abbott Labs. Established a contact to design an integrated microfluidic system for hematologic analysis.
-
Applied Biosystems. Established a subcontract to Applied Bio to produce reagents for our DHS Biowatch Contract.
-
Roche Molecular Systems. Early in my post graduate career, I Established, along with Dr. Richard White of UCB, a Roche funded R and D contract with RMS providing lab access for me to perform PCR on microfabricated chips. (yes, I brought in the $$ and did the experiments). This became the basis for Cepheid technology.
